Unique even among Mexico's magnificent tropical beach destinations, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo offers the best of both worlds: on one hand the luxury and modernity of Ixtapa, and on the other, only six scenic kilometers away, the country charm of fishing town Zihuatanejo.
Zihuatanejo is a small city that still keeps the traditional appearance and friendly atmosphere of an old fishing town, inlcuding that authentic mexican flavor.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is on the coast of Guerrero, southwest of Mexico City in an area known as the Golden Pacific, which is part of the Mexican Riviera; it's 225 km northeast of Acapulco from the Federal Highway 200 on the Pacific coast and 583km from Mexico City.
Zihuatanejo enjoys yearlong semi-tropical weather. Temperatures average between 23 and 33 degrees Celsius. The rainy season extends from June to September and sometimes even mid-October, with precipitation occuring in the afternoons or evenings usually.
Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo is the right place when it comes to entertainment. There are many activites you can enjoy during your stay, among them golf and fishing. Zihuatanejo is classiffied as the second most important sport fishing site in the world, and the best in Mexico.
You can also practice scuba diving with spectacular views of submarine canyons and coral formations, water skiing, surf, horseback riding, excursions, bike rides and tyrolean crossings (also called zip line or flying fox), or kayaking.
There also are nearby theme parks you can spend a day in.
