Are there items that incurred in specific charges?

Yes, some of the most common items are: wind surfing equipment, surfboards, scuba diving equipment, bicycles, boogie boards and pets, which charges could be up to US$75 depending on airline policies.

Can I check more bags than what is allowed?

Depending on the size of the airplane, it is possible to check more than the allowed luggage paying a fee for the excess.
During certain periods airlines do not allowed for excess luggage.

What can I bring in my carry-on luggage?

You may pack in your carry-on luggage up to 100ml (3.4 Oz) products such as beverages, shampoo, hair spray or gel, toothpaste, sun tanning lotions, liquid cosmetics, lotions and aerosols. They should be placed in a 1 liter or 8 x 7.5 inches clear plastic bag.

Beside these items you may carry: baby formula or breast milk and baby juices (only if you travel with infants), liquids, gels and aerosols acquired after the inspection area, prescribed medication, insulin and other over the counter medications not exceeding 100 ml or 3.4 Oz, eye care products, medication for diabetics with medical certification, solid cosmetics, personal care products such as lip color, and solid deodorant.

Note: Passengers can carry Duty Free products, which will be handed to passengers at the airplane’s entrance.

What is the difference between the by weight and by piece systems?

Usually, airlines allow first class passengers to check up to 30 kilos and coach passengers 25 kilos in domestic flights, in accordance with the regulations.

For international flights passengers are allowed to check a certain number of bags.
 
Besides their checked bags passengers can carry one or two light weight items with them such as, shopping bag, handbag, laptop computer, photo camera, etc.

What type of compensation would I receive for lost luggage? Do I need to provide a certification for the value of the lost items?

In accordance with the Montreal Convention, and the regulations applied in the countries signing the agreement, the airline’s liability for lost luggage is 1,000 Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) per passenger. The responsibility limits do not imply an immediate compensation for the maximum value.

The airline’s responsibility will only correspond to the value of the damage, if the checked or carry-on luggage is value has been declared, accepted by the airline and with previous payment of additional amount.  

The Montreal Convention was implemented in June 28, 2004. It is applied to the companies of the country that has signed the agreement in regard to the transportation of passengers and their luggage, and to companies of countries that have abstain to signed the agreement serving international flights between two points in the following countries:  European community countries, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, Colombia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Gambia, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Mexico, Namibia, Nigeria, New Zeeland, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Syria, Tanzania, Rumania, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and  Tonga.

Which items are forbidden?

Mexican and International Aeronautic Authorities forbid arms, objects and substances listed on the Fire Arms and Explosives Law and others items consider dangerous for public air transportation at the restricted areas: boarding gates and airplanes.

Every person going through the restricted areas is subject to inspection.

Infantes/Infants

Are infants allowed a free checked luggage allowance?

Yes, infants are allowed a free checked luggage allowance, which is usually a less than 10kg, piece. Additionally some airlines allow carrying a stroller.

Yes, children who pay the applicable discount for minors will be allowed the free checked luggage allowance that applies to a full fare passenger.

Do I need identification to travel abroad if I am underage?

If the person underage is traveling accompanied by adults, he/she will need a passport and corresponding visa.
If the person underage is traveling alone, he/she should check-in accompanied by an adult with official identification, who will signed the proper documentation.  The person underage will also need a passport and corresponding visa.

How much would and infant pay for and individual seat?

Each airline has a specific policy for infants traveling.
In some cases an infant traveling in an individual seat will pay the minor fare with the discount applicable to the route. If two infants are traveling with an adult, in some cases the second infant will pay the minor fare with the discount applicable to the route.

Is there a charge for minors traveling alone?

In addition to the applicable ticket rate there will be a charge for unaccompanied minors. The charge for international flights is around US$60 and for domestic flights is around Ps. 200.

Mi child has to travel but we can’t travel with him. Can he fly alone? Would someone from the crew assist him?

Unaccompanied minors are allowed to travel with proper documentation signed by the parents or guardians and if an adult will receive them at the arriving airport. Minors, under the age of 12, will be assisted by a member of the crew. All airlines will charge for their unaccompanied minor services.

Should I pay for an infant traveling?

A child under the age of 2 is considered an infant. Policies in regard to infants traveling are specific to each airline and the type of flight (international or domestic).

What is the age to be considered a minor?

In terms of ticket rates, some airlines consider children between the ages of 2 and 12, flying with an adult, to be minors.

Am I allowed to smoke during the flight?

No, it is not allowed to smoke during any flight.

Am I allowed to use my cellular phone during the flight?

For safety reasons, cellular phones could only be used while the airplane is on the platform, with the doors open, and fuel is not being loaded. The use of certain electronic equipment is allowed during the flight, however, during the take off and landing, all electronic equipment should be turned off. Please follow the directions of the crew.

Can I check flight schedules and purchase tickets online?

Currently most airlines have reservation and ticket sales services available online. You may purchase tickets using any major credit card from Mexico or the United States. All ticket purchases are subjects to a credit bank authorization.

Can I travel with a domestic pet?

You can fly only with dogs, cats and small birds (these required a special authorization). Pets are not included in the free checked luggage allowance and will only be accepted in a cage, with the appropriate vaccinations, and corresponding permits. They should fly in the cargo compartments of the plane, in a container that could be obtained from some airlines.
Guide and service dogs, as well as other service animals (medical certification required), will travel free of charge, with the passenger, and will not be considered as luggage. The dog should have muzzle, collar and leash.
Some airlines allow passenger to flight with their pets, if the dog meets certain height and weight requirements.
Please, remember that there are restrictions for the import of animals into several countries. It is the responsibility of the passenger to contact the country of destination and provide proper documentation.

How far in advance should I be at the airport?

Domestic flights: You should be at the airport 1 hour before your flight.
International flights: You should be at the airport 2 hour before your flight.

I am a foreigner and would like to visit Mexico. How can I get a tourist visa?

You should contact the Mexican consulate in your city or country to find out the visa requirements. These requirements may vary between countries. If you are in Mexico you can contact the Immigration National Institute for information.

Can I travel being pregnant? Up to what month is it safe to travel?

Airlines recommend talking to your doctor before traveling. If you are 7 months pregnant or more, you need provide a signed letter absolving the airline of any responsibility, as well as a medical certification confirming the stage of your pregnancy and your health conditions.

It is not allowed to travel 7 days before or after childbirth.

I am physically disabled passenger and need assistance to travel. Do I need to notify the airport in advance? Is there an additional charge?

Most of the services required by disabled passengers such as wheel chairs or personal assistance are free of charge. However, please make sure to confirm this with the airline when you make your reservation.
 
Please be aware that regulations limit the number of passengers with reduced mobility that can travel on the same flight, depending on the size of the aircraft and the services required by the disabled passenger. For this reason, we encourage you to make your reservation at least 7 days in advance, or at a minimum 48 hours prior to your date of departure. In this way we can make sure that the services you need will be available. 
 
If you are using a folding wheelchair, and the path to the airplane does not include stairs, you will be able to remain in your chair until reaching the airplane’s door. You will be able to keep your chair in the passenger cabin. If you have a battery powered chair it will need to be checked.
 
If you are visually or hearing impaired, the airline’s flight attendants will assist you with the explanation of emergency procedures and handling of food, etc.
 
If you require supplementary oxygen during the flight, the airline will provide it to you. Passengers are prohibited from providing their own oxygen.

I need to travel with an ill passenger. Can he travel? Under which conditions?

It depends on the type of illness. Some ill passengers are able to flight normally. However, ask your doctor if you have recently have surgery, a heart attack, or if you have respiratory problems, sinusitis, ear problems or nasal congestions.

You should inform the airline at the moment you purchase your ticket. Sometimes the airline insurance decides if the ill passenger is able to fly, and under which conditions. If the passenger needs a cot he/she must be accompanied by someone. In these cases, ticket rates may vary.

What types of complaints or suggestions are taken care of?

You can complaint about the airport services or the services offered by the companies operating at our airports through our website’s Suggestions Mailbox or the OMA Suggestions Mailbox located at all our airports.
Please note that restaurants and stores have their own complaint system.

Where and how can I complain if I have a problem?

If you have complaints concerning the air transportation service you may send a complaint letter to the airline or the travel agency. Airlines usually have available complaint forms at their information booths or at their ticket sales points.  You may also use our website’s Suggestions Mailbox or the OMA Suggestions Mailbox located at all our airports to send your complaint.

Where and how can I complaint if I lost my luggage?

If you have a problem with your luggage (damage, delay, lost) please go to the airline’s counter at the airport to file the necessary complaint form.
Note: Do not leave the airport without presenting your complaint. Airlines have established deadlines for this type of complaints.
